Residential building in São Vicente

The process of rehabilitating historic buildings is always presented as a challenge in the articulation of current regulatory requirements and functional organization needs with pre-existing constructions. The rehabilitation project of a building with 4 fractions, dating from the end of the 19th century (1894), located in São Vicente, in Lisbon, is oriented towards adequate preservation and enhancement of the pre-existence, as well as its combination with the improvement of the functional, structural and energy performance, and from the point of view of changing the interiors, the principles of protection and enhancement of all relevant elements are safeguarded, such as stone masonry, metal guards, ornamental stucco elements, shutters, resulting into an intervention that respects and maintains the history of the apartments, enabling a relationship between Tradition / Contemporary. The project was developed in co-authorship with the architecture office Kema Studio.
